GATE Download Page

NOTE: if you are upgrading from one version of GATE to another you must delete your user configuration file before running the new version. The user configuration file is typically ~/.gate.xml on Unix-style platforms (including Mac OS X), C:\Documents and Settings\username\gate.xml on Windows XP, and C:\Users\username\gate.xml on Windows Vista or later.

On this page you can find the latest stable release of GATE, as well as the latest nightly built snapshots.

Release 5.1 (December 8th 2009)

This release of GATE requires Java 5.0 or later, and performs best if run using a JDK rather than just a JRE. The Windows installer will direct you to the appropriate download page if you do not have Java at all, or if your version is too old. Linux and Solaris users can download a JVM from Sun's download page. Mac OS X includes Java by default, but note that Java 5.0 is only available for Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

If the installers don't work for you, you can download the following packages. You will need to provide your own Java VM (version 5.0 or higher) and set your JAVA_HOME appropriately. Details are in the "how to" chapter of the user guide.

The BIN, SRC and ALL packages all include the full set of GATE plugins and all the libraries GATE requires to run, including sample trained models for the new LingPipe and OpenNLP plugins.

The latest development snapshots of GATE can be downloaded from our Hudson continuous integration server.

Old releases

Release 5.1-beta2 (November 4th 2009)

This release of GATE requires Java 5.0 or later, and performs best if run using a JDK rather than just a JRE. The Windows installer will direct you to the appropriate download page if you do not have Java at all, or if your version is too old. Linux and Solaris users can download a JVM from Sun's download page. Mac OS X includes Java by default, but note that Java 5.0 is only available for Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

This release suffered from problems with the ANNIE components when running on Windows. We recommend upgrading to 5.1 beta 2 or later.

For other platforms (Linux, Solaris, etc.), you can download the generic installer. This is an executable JAR file; you may be able to run it by double clicking if your desktop environment supports this, otherwise you can run the installer from the command line using java -jar downloaded_file.jar

If you wish to use the Google plugin, you should also download google.jar and put it in the google directory under plugins inside your GATE installation. This file was accidentally omitted from the released zip files and installers.
