GATE Architectures Reading Group
This group discusses issues related to architectures, cloud computing, web services, and other infrastructural developments relevant to Natural Language Engineering. The group also covers new developments in architectures for Language Engineering, in relation to GATE.
Themes:
- integrating open source language processing and language resources
- software engineering in relation to language computation
- application experience reports
- issues and approaches in parallelisation and distribution (particularly in relation to cloud computing)
- integration with related areas (data mining, semantic repositories, big table databases)
- persisting experimental contexts (computation and data), e.g. via virtualisation
- efficient embedding of NLP processing in diverse environments (including small memory devices)
- Service-Oriented Architecture (SOAs) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) models of language computation
- automatic feedback processes of knowledge discovery and reuse from text
Drivers:
After more than a decade of the current generation of NLP
architectures, the context moves on. This brings new challenges to both
developers and their users. Key drivers include:
- Social Media
- Terabyte-Scale Data Sets
- Cloud and Grid Computing
- Semantic Computing, Ontologies, and Reasoning
- Cross-Media Language Analysis (text, speech, images, video)
- Ambient Computing
